PERSONALITY: Ruby is a sweetheart with big dreams in a big and complicated world like Remnant. She dreams of being the kind of hero that she read and had read to her in storybooks, a knight in shining armor who will protect everyone. As Remnant is a lot more cruel than storybooks portray it, it makes Ruby come off as a little naive, if not childish. As the youngest of the group of friends comprising Team RWBY and JNPR, she’s probably the most reliable as the rest of them have terrible hang ups that rattle them at times. Of course, this attitude is always a rough thing, as she had a hard time getting Weiss Schnee, who she always considered her “BFF”, to open up to her more.
She has amazing leadership potential, showing this as early as dealing with the Nevermore, leading her future team in putting it down. Even when she’s leading a team not of her own, such as the remains of Team JNPR - Jaune, Nora and Ren - she can rally them together to deal with anything needed. As well, she’s shown to be something of a great listener, a person who can hear others’ needs and worries and reassure them and help them along, such as Jaune’s early inexperience due to how he got into Beacon and Penny’s revelation of being a robot and Ruby’s reassurance that it would not change anything between the two of them.
One of Ruby’s biggest flaws is the fact that she seems more and more like a Stepford Smiler. Ruby hasn’t had the greatest of lives - her mother’s disappearance and supposed death, the Fall of Beacon (which included the maiming of Yang, Blake’s disappearance, Weiss being dragged back to Atlas and the death of Pyrrha and the aforementioned Penny), her uncle Qrow’s near-death experience and Ironwood’s sanity slippage. The only time she has been shown to break down is when Salem confirms that her mother did die, supposedly by her hand. Beyond this, Ruby seems to not really have a chance to actually show most other emotions.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Aura Aura is the manifestation of one’s soul, a mysterious power that anyone with a soul can obtain, even animals. In a sense, Aura are barriers that can protect the person with said Aura and other items within a small radius, including clothing and weapons. Aura can protect the user from falls, heal wounds, protect from extreme temperatures and other aspects. However, it is entirely possible for one’s Aura to fail and “break”, causing the user to be rendered “normal” for a time. It is possible for others to have their Aura “unlocked”, but it is unknown if Ruby knows how to.
Semblance Semblances are abilities derived from a person’s Aura. Not everyone with Aura can create a Semblance, however. Ruby’s Semblance is known as “Petals”, which she transforms into a flurry of rose petals and move at incredible speeds. The speeds are shown to be heavy gale-force winds, strong enough to sweep up people and slam them into walls. At least one hunter has expressed curiosity at this power, as it seems that there’s more to it, but nothing has been shown as of yet.
Silver-Eyed Warrior Ruby is one of a rare collection of people who bear special silver eyes. These people are known for their more aggressive desire to fight and the mysterious power they hold. So far, the only thing known about this power is the strange burst of energy that Ruby can unleash from her eyes. This mysterious light is powerful enough to maim humans and petrify Grimm. According to Maria, a former Silver-Eyed Warrior herself, this is tied to one’s emotions - the more calm and happy the person is in, the more control one has over this power and can use it safely.
INVENTORY: Just one, her personal weapon, Crescent Rose, her gun/scythe transforming hybrid weapon.
